If you are looking for a binary answer, I would say no. But it is not so simple. There are so many factors and follow-up questions that need to be answered. Let’s try to understand it in a little more detail.
What is AI in this time?
AI now is nothing but another worldwide technological revolution. A mere step in the constant advancement of humanity. It is no different from the early agricultural revolutions, or the various industrial revolutions that we have been going through. All of these contributed to global economic changes primarily through efficiency improvements.
The most recent and most impactful one was the third industrial revolution (aka digital revolution) which introduced computers that have now evolved into extremely powerful mobile phones. Just think about what all these things did for jobs.
So, why is everyone panicking?
Well, any technological evolution has the potential to cause panic. At every point, there was a section of the population that was scared about their career and livelihood. But this one is a little unique. It is the first time that an advancement is mimicking human thinking and inferential actions.
So far, there was always a lot of skill and human influence required to make all the advancements work. But now, we are having to find out how we as humans provide an edge over AI. Considering AI can literally access the entire internet and worldly knowledge, the fear of not knowing our value is causing panic.
What should you do now?
Just like the previous occasions, it is important to embrace the technological advancement. Think about the work you do and try to understand how AI is improving your industry. And try to see how you can enhance your everyday work With AI in your toolkit. Maybe you can be more efficient with what you do. Or maybe you can automate a monotonous task. Or maybe, just maybe, you can make AI do your job completely while you invent the next thing that will turn the world over! Who knows?
When the wheel was invented, people made bullock carts to reach farther places. When stainless steel was invented, people made vessels that rarely wore out. When the internet was invented, people made chat applications to bring the world closer. Well, you wouldn’t be reading this blog if we did not embrace internet.
If cauliflower can evolve to become pizza, you can do whatever you want! So, is AI taking away your job? I say, “only if you want it to!”.
