Newton’s Laws of Motion

Physics Class-ah!?! Oh! No No! Don’t worry! This will be deeper than simple Physics. We will look at the laws, but apply them to life instead. 😝

The Law of Inertia

Every body continues to be in its state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled by some external force to act otherwise.

Let me paraphrase – you’ll continue to lead a static or a repetitive life until some external push makes you change course. If you review all times you have got out of your comfort zone, there is a high chance of a driving factor. Even the act of waking up in the morning needs an alarm or an early meeting to force you out of bed. (Kumbakarnan had neither you see!!).

And think about bigger things like changing careers. If it was not getting saturated in your current role, why would you want to go through days of preparation and hours of interviews? Changing houses? Unless there is an increase in rent (or pest infestation), packing and unpacking is not really that fun. சரி! அதுக்கு என்ன இப்போ? (Okay! So what now?)

Let’s flip it around. To go through a change, you need an external push. Now, the important part is – this push can come from within yourself. Remember that ambition you had since childhood? It’s not going to accomplish itself unless you motivate yourself. What are you waiting for?

The Law of Momentum

The rate of change of momentum of a body is directly proportional to the applied force and takes place in the direction in which the force acts.

Hold on to that thought about ambition. This law reads – the bigger the ambition, the bigger the force has to be. If you’re moving a rock, a squirrel can help. But if you’re moving a MOUNTAIN, you’ve got to call Hanuman. Okay fine, Shakthimaan is still around. Point being, you need superheroes, or at least their strength.

You need one of two things. Either a powerful one time motivation to help you go the distance, or constant encouragement to keep you moving towards the destination.

You understand where I am going with this? Okay. Last one.

The Law of Actions

To every action, there is always an equal and opposite reaction.

This just reflects the reality. The better you are, the stronger the opposition. What’s the fun in not having any competition?? Trust me, winning by being the sole player is not only going to be boring, it also means an opponent is probably gaining strength without revealing themselves, which is obviously more dangerous.

Be it your own fears, oppression from not-so-well-wishers, or a real player, acknowledge their presence and face them head on. Find out what you can do to convince or confront them. How you rise from the situation will define your identity and give you more strength to take the next one.
